Discussion Group IDG-Hub Franconia

How do you feel when you think about issues such as climate change, mass extinction, or other existential risks? My first reaction is often resignation. And that is certainly part of the journey. But how do we move from resignation to powerful and joyful action? This is what we want to talk about.

You are warmly invited to experience The Week together with us and/or together with your family and friends and to engage in conversation with each other. At irregular intervals, we offer the group format of The Week in the region (especially Volkach and Gerolzhofen), where we discuss the topics of climate change, species extinction and environmental pollution and how we can deal with them.

The Week

I would like to invite you personally and recommend The Week to you. It is a format developed by Frederic Laloux (author of Reinventing Organizations) and his team. You can use the materials they created (3 documentaries on 3 evenings plus a ton of additional resources) at your home to explore, alone or with family and/or friends, the topics of climate change, species extinction, and pollution, and how we can deal with them and start conversations with each other.

In addition, we offer to go through this format together with other interested people - live in the KreativQuartier in Gerolzhofen (Spitalstr. 5):

Tuesday, 25.03.2025
Wednesday, 26.03.2025
Friday, 28.03.2025
Each time from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
A relaxed get-together is possible afterwards.

If you cannot be there for all the dates, I can also send you the link to watch the episode at home. Just write me via the contact form.

Last month, we went through this format in the KreativQuartier Volkach with a small group of committed people and really went on a “U” shaped journey:

from confronting our own resignation after episode 1 (Isn't it all over already?),

to the glimmer of hope that appears on the horizon in episode 2 (are we really on the verge of the greatest change that humanity has ever seen?),

to the concrete possibilities of how each of us and all of us together can take action.

The Week is structured like a “U”:

Episode 1 is the difficult one in which we go down the “U” and look what's coming straight in the eye, without looking away. What will the world look like in 2050 for us and our children and grandchildren if we don't take powerful action now?

In episode 2, we put everything into context. How did we get here? What story or worldview led to this? In the film, this is referred to as the story of “more and more.” At the Center for World Philosophy and Religion, where I work, we also call it the story of “rivalrous conflict based on zero-sum games and win/lose metrics.” What new story do we need to get out of this mess? What new approaches are already emerging – initially on the periphery – that are already an expression of this new story? How has humanity managed before, within a short period of time and starting with just a few people, to anchor a new story in culture and thus implement changes that no one had previously thought possible?

And episode 3 takes us up the “U” - powerful and inspiring. Here we look at what each and every one of us - and all of us together - can do. What is really mine to do? What would we even enjoy doing? What initiatives already exist that I can join? And how can I implement my own vision and idea together with others?

In a further discussion group, we then deepen the insights and ideas even further.

And yes, FreiRäume (open spaces) play an essential role in this!

Personal Invitation in German:

_________

Here is the invitation in the words of the The Week initiators:

“The environment is collapsing and the climate is changing rapidly. The Week is a group experience that helps us recognize what is coming and what we can do about it.”

3 evenings. Together with others.

To understand the crucial challenges of our time.

The Week was developed by Frederic Laloux and his team. We use the materials they created (3 documentaries on 3 evenings) to get into conversation with each other.

Let's go on a journey together!

“Too often, this topic feels abstract and overwhelming. The Week is an opportunity to really engage with this topic among friends, family or colleagues. We are not told what to do, but we are encouraged to make our own decisions. So that we can say with a clear conscience: I knew what I needed to know, I did what I needed to do, and I have no regrets.”
